According to the United Nations, one in three women worldwide experiences violence — and every 10 minutes, a woman is killed by an intimate partner. 1in3 was born from heartbreak after the murder of Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei, who was doused in petrol and set on fire by her former partner after competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She was the third female athlete in Kenya since 2021 to suffer a violent death at the hands of an intimate partner. 1in3 unites hundreds of Olympians and world-class athletes — including Coco Gauff and Marcus Daniell — to raise awareness, demand action, and drive legislative reform. Through mass-media campaigns and community-based programs, 1in3 harnesses athletes' social influence to challenge harmful attitudes and create safer environments for women and girls globally.
