Les first debuted for the Black Ferns (New Zealand national team) in 2015 and was part of the 2017 Rugby World Cup winning team. She is a natural leader, calm under pressure and was named captain of the Black Ferns for the first time in 2019. Elder took time off in 2020, becoming a Mum, and returned to the Black Ferns squad in 2021. She has played 22 tests for the Black Ferns across seven years. Les was also part of the Bay of Plenty Volcanix side that won the Farah Palmer Cup championship in 2017, and captained Chiefs Manawa to the inaugural Super Rugby Aupiki title in 2022
