Max has competed at two Olympic Games. At Tokyo 2020 he paired with Kurtis Imrie where the pair placed 5th in the K2 1000m. At Paris 2024 he made the finals in the K4 500m, which was the first boat from NZ to do so in 40 years. In his downtime, Brown is an accomplished musician and teaches music. He wrote the New Zealand Team song 'Aint Just Dreaming' with Ellesse Andrews. The song was ranked #1 for new NZ singles.
